Ever wondered what the word desert means??? In Las Vegas you could probably ignore it, as long as you just float around the indoors of the Hotel Casinos along the famous Las Vegas Blvd. Strip, but else i can only tell you that it gets hot here - while the locals just call this warm (the 90° Fahrenheit). Glad my place has air conditioning too. Las Vegas from the point of view of a non gambler; sure, none of these irrational people you would come across in Florida, here almost everybody manages to be polite and trying to apply harmony, but somewhere in the news or gossip on the street you still here of murders and the usual crime you find in any US city, only that it is nowhere where i am for a positive change. The call this city Sin City - haha, just because a girl that gets paid to fluff a bit around in "underwear" in front of some male, just because the tease in dark places is the big business here, it is a laughing joke compared to what we Europeans see in our cities, so better buy a cheap ticket to Germany, France, Denmark or even Switzerland if you want some good real sin and not just a "decor sin"! You do however not need to add to the terrible pollution with all these way to many cars on all these 3 to 4 lane boulvards in this city, there is a very good bus system for only 40USD for 30 days or 2.50USD a 24 hours pass that gets everyone to anywhere in town mostly on time and with good frequencies. One thing anyone has to keep in mind about the general common spirit of Las Vegas: Narrowminded, nitpicking and of course the usual western squareheaded attitude is omni present here - unless you are a big spender of course, because the money seems to be the only thing that drives this city in the desert.
Hola Senores, not that i have learned any Spanish of late, but this greeting sounds so much nicer then the American Hi. Anyway, just here for a quick bedtime story from the real life beach time i am having here: Today a big braunish thing floating where i usually go for my ocean water massage. I went as close as i thought is safe but could not determine what it was, but was almost certain it was a living thing, about the size of a large stingray in diameter, but was floating right on the surface and had a bullseye right in the middle of it's body. First i thought i leave it alone, but because it kept on floating around me and i got tired of watching out for it, especially against the sunlight, i decided to go on shore and grab that strange thing that has been laying around for weeks now, something that looked like a sail to a surf board or so, and went with it out there again to try and have a closer look while able to protect myself. It turned out to be a huge jelly fish, never seen a bugger this big before and i was surely surprised to still one here as the water is relatively cool now, but maybe the nice warm sunshine brought this monster here. So i decided it has to go as there where to many triathlets swimming around and a couple of daring kids took notice of it too. Was rather difficult to get a grip on this huge thing with this to flexible sail, and it turned out to have really long tentacles as well, at least 2 meters some of them, so i had to be careful. The first few tentacles started to come of the beast and i felt them stinging on my ankles, but eventually i got help from a North Carolina man with his foot paadles, that was easier to move the jelly towards the shore. Once we had it with the help of a couple of waves in the sand we couldn't move it far enough on shore so the waves couldn't flush it back into the ocean, but fortunately a woman had the right idea and brought one of the big trash bins over so we could finally capture the slimy creature in that bin. The fellow from NC was himself absolutely sure that what we had taken out of humans harm was a Portugese Man of war! What a different world here. Just a good 1 1/2 hours walk from my place near the Dalhousie University downtown Halifax i came into this Jollymore called suburb of greater Halifax near (or actually surrounded by) a park of full green nature, more or less wilderness in the city, with small lakes, ducks and the like. The enchanted forest as they call it (but then again, Halifaxians have a faible for fantasy names) really is a typical Pisces town retreat, dead appearing yet in full bloom, houses in wide lush gardens under age old trees of all sorts, only that the houses are old, only that the entire forest feels and looks like time stands still - but not evolution and the impact weather and other environmental effects have on houses. Houses inside a urban jungle of green trees and bushes are dark inside yet, because of minimal road traffic it is peaceful and contemplative - yet, being to contemplative means leaving the daily realities behind
I keep on wondering why i came here and why i didn't just move on real quick, maybe i should have...... This city on the Atlantic Coast looks like it's still 1920, old houses everwhere, sloppy care taking of everything, fog in the middle on June, need to heat my apartment in the middle of June, it's also rather expensive here, not to much to be exited about, even the swimming is no longer a daily learning, more of a daily "hang in there" exercise, lack of energy, lack of focus, just to superficial and kind of unhealthy and depressing, except on sunny days, but those are far and few in between - while they have heatwaves elsewhere in Canada........... Only the people seem relatively friendly and communicative, that's a good thing for me this year.
Link Ola Senors y SenoritasAll that jazz is not played on instruments on this volcanic island, no need, there are so many birds singing from dusk to dawn (or vice versa) and then, of course, the colors, the colors, and the compositions of this freely and only partially cared for or controlled vegetation in endless varieties, from needle trees to big fat old palms, from delicate wild roses to cactus of all sorts, one could almost think this must be heaven here - but it ain't, of course, nature has it's own rules, and living a bit to natural (they call it rural here) does not do much for longevity and great health on a windy island, the houses built here may look romantic to some, but the windows are badly sealed against high winds, the doors are mostly not sealed against much at all, and, of course, as one could expect on an island that lies off the African Coast but belongs to a European nation that is some 3 airplane hours away there are endless items people here never get that are part of the daily basics for mainland commoners anywhere in the world. It's a bit like living somewhere in Siberia, just without any risk of a big freeze. But i want to mainly present photographic impressions here, and i sure choose the nicest images i can make, see for yourself at my new photo album from La Palma
My good friend Lucy has left town, back home to Canada she flew. The
opportunity for me to finish the load of good photo impressions from
our vacation in Panama City Beach, Florida, where we stayed at a
vacation condo that we rented through friendly Nellie and her assistant
Jackie from http://panamacitybeachcondosrental-sales.comNellys
Panama City Beach condos for vacation rentals has a great range of
condos available and good connections to other vacation condo owners in
Panama City Beach for an even greater choice of PCB vacation condos. By
the way, Panama City Beach, FL is not the largest city in the world,
there are many things you can't get here you would have access to in a
metropolitan city. For this reason i was happy to get a few things through the internet. AalsmeerStore.com
was my favorite online store for all the little and big things i needed
around my vacation condo in Panama City Beach. Aalsmeerstore.com is a
secure online shopping mall for home, garden, car care, interior decor
items, home security and all other things needed around home or for
pets. My next blog entry with photos will most likely come from a Canary island.
Some of you may know that the turn of the calendar year is an abstract. The real change of years indeed is at another time, and then it can be felt - the change of year as the Chinese celebrate it. So the New Year is really on the 18. of February 2007 when the year of the Fire-Dog finaly has barked out and the year of the Fire-Pig will oink in. If the above sounds totally unfamiliar to you there is always my total astrology information website to update yourself. If astrology and astrological advice on a scientific 100% accurate level isn't your thing you might find some interest in my global travel website with many photos and art work done on so many places around the globe. My art works portfolio is maybe of interest for those who like paintings in acrylics or simple pencil drawings, all in more or less figurative classical styles and techniques.
